Women's Javascript Study Group

  • January 30, 2013 · 6:30 PM

We're a group of women who want to learn to Javascript together.  We welcome people of all levels, but beginners are especially encouraged. You move at your own pace in this group, so it doesn't matter if you are a fast or slow learner, or if you attend every week.

We meet every Wednesday, 6:30 - 9pm.  Free (non-pizza) dinner included, with gluten-free and vegetarian options.

Please be punctual - if you will be later than 6:45pm, please skip the group. We have to come down to the lobby to get latecomers, so it's disruptive to dinner and coding to do so.

Our meetings begin with yummy food catered by our host, Zoosk, and we eat with Zoosk employees (some of whom can answer JS questions!).  Then we have a short discussion or a presentation on a topic, then all hop on our laptops and work on Javascript tutorials and help each other when we get stuck.  Most of us are using codecademy.com, but we welcome other tools.

Thanks to Zoosk, our wonderful sponsor, for the food, space, and support.

Our entrance is to the right of the Blick Art Supply Store on Market Street, one block southwest of Powell Street BART and the Westfield Mall.  If you're afraid of the dark, no worries -- we can all walk to BART/Muni together afterwards. Just go on in (or knock if it's locked), and a friendly Zoosker (Beth or Kristin) will meet you in the lobby.

PS - If you want to come but don't have a laptop, just RSVP with a note and we'll try to find one for you.

Wish I could have come. Just made the decision last minute not to, my friend is in town visiting and I want to spend time with him. I'll DEFINITELY come soon. Can't wait!

I've been coming to the JavaScript meetups for a few weeks now and thanks to you girls I was actually able put the finishing touches on the web project I've been working on! I wrote ACTUAL JavaScript from SCRATCH last week and I couldn't have done it without you all answering my probably silly questions. Who taught me about toggling show/hide? I need to give you a hug. I ended up using it (among other things) for an awesome event discovery website that my friend and I just launched our first Indiegogo campaign for. Check it out at: http://www.indiegogo.com/gallevent You see those screen captures? Real functioning JavaScript at use. I am so happy this group exists. Thank you guys!

Oh yes! And if you like our project please do tell your friends! Or contribute! That would be awesome too.

    Thank you again!

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
