  • Social and Talk...

You've heard about CSS pre-compilers such as Sass, LESS and Stylus, but they're difficult to get up and running. Why should you bother learning yet another flash-in-the-pan language just to write the CSS that you already know?

In this talk, I will explain why you should be using a CSS pre-compilier, as well as demonstrate 3 quick wins for stylesheet development using Sass.

Bio: Katie is a web developer and Pacific Northwest native. She's been coding for the web long enough to remember when you could only debug through alerts, and the magic of the first browsers to give you color-coded syntax in View Source. She's worked on intranets, enterprise and retail sites using HTML, JavaScript, jQuery, CSS and Sass. When not in front of a computer, she can often be found making cool things with glass in the hotshop or smashing pots in search of rupees.

Hi Sarah, how does July 3rd sound? Should I think of a location as well or can we meet at the Getty offices? Thank you, please let me know.

I really want to make it tomorrow, I've been so excited about CSS preprocessors! Unfortunately since the time has been moved up I don't know if I can get out of work early enough. Can I be a maybe?

This is actually next week. We plan on having a short talk before from a Getty HR person, so I doubt Katie's talk would start until 6. Hope you can make it!

Hi, I am not feeling well today and will need to postpone the meetup. I am waiting to hear back from my company to see when they are able to host again. I will update the event as soon as I have more information. I apologize for the late notice, but I was hoping to feel better. :-/

Katie is willing to do a talk on CSS Pre-Compilers. Does anyone else want to do a short 15-20 min talk during this meetup?

I can do a talk about MOOCs, how to use them to learn programming, algorithms, etc. Basically, an overview of what one can learn where, and what to expect. I haven't been able to work the last two years, so MOOCs are my primary occupation :) Is that interesting to anybody? P.S. I have a noticeable accent.

Can I bring my daughter? She'll most likely draw and I promise to leave if there's disruptions. :D

Let's do 3 or[masked]min sessions and then save the last 30-45 mins for socializing and discussion? If you're interested in doing a mini-session, post here and we can vote on them (if a lot) with the Like button. We can use this as a trial format for further meetups.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
