Security+ Study Group

  • Jul 23, 2013 · 7:00 PM

sec+

Are you looking to take the Security +exam? Let's study together!

Security + is an introductory level security certification offered by CompTIA. While this group is not in any way affiliated with CompTIA, we will be studying the Security + material to assist participants in self study to prepare to pass the certification test offered by CompTIA.

This study group will assume little to no networking or security IT knowledge. We will therefore move at a slower pace than other groups. This is to help ensure participants have an understanding of the material for a firm footing in IT security basics not only for the CompTIA Security + test knowledge base, but also just a generally good foundation. Everyone will be encouraged to share knowledge in areas they have a strong understanding in so we can all help each other learn.

Suggested study material: David L. Prowse CompTIA Security+ SY0-301 Authorized Cert Guide, Deluxe Edition (2nd Edition)

*This edition has come highly recommended by several instructors and includes a video CD for visual learners.

Expectations for the first meeting;

1. Walking through setting up a virtual machine step-by-step

2. Cover chapter one material

3. Complete questions at end of chapter one

4. Review for key terms / definitions

We'll be using Anymeeting for remote participation. Once registered, you’ll receive the meeting participation ID by email before the meetup. Expect to join 15-30 minutes prior to test your technical configurations.

      Hi Sis,

      No, you do not need to have your Network + to do Security +. It would help, but it is certainly not a barrier. Besides, we are going slow in this group as a starter group, so you should have plenty of time to become comfortable with the material.
