Hi everyone,

Some new folks have joined up and other folks have left the group since the last Meetup. It's been a few months since we've actually gotten together. Time certainly flies!

Why so long? Well, first there was this little thing I did with my girlfriend. It's called, getting married, lol. We tied the knot on 12/12/12 in Asheville after a very short (1 week) engagement. I gave her the ring on top of Grandfather Mountain on a beautiful Saturday afternoon, after which we enjoyed an incredible sunset.

Then, there were the holidays. We had to head up to Boston for a week to see my family.

And, lastly, I got caught up at work with this insane project we're pushing along called, GetConquer.com (blog: Conquerblog.com). That's been taking up a lot of time. I also had to man the fort at home while my wife went to Ecuador.

So, it's the end of February already and I'm thinking...what do we do next?

Well, there certainly has been a lot going on in the WordPress world for sure, but I thought we'd take a step back and just think about or analyze the open source business model.

I'm working on a side project with my Netmix.org domain to launch a Wordpress theme framework for bands/artists and labels that will turn Wordpress into a one stop artist showcase for streaming music, selling downloads and merch and distributing music to other services - while maintaining tracking and payment mechanisms. We're going to build it around the open source model of "free." So, how do you make money? Well, that's what we'll discuss.

I'll also show you how I'm planning to use other software as a service platforms like Github, JIRA and Basecamp to run the project.

On another note, Michael McNeill, one of my devs and and a UNC student will need to help schedule a room on campus. I'll let everyone know shortly when and where the next Wordpress Chapel Hill Meetup will be.

Best,

Tony
