WordPress Security: How to Keep Your Site From Getting Hacked

Details

No website, no matter how secure, is immune from being hacked. There are plenty of folks who would love to deface and change the content on your WordPress site as well as use it to install dangerous programs on visitors' computers, and distribute pirated software and media files. Good security requires planning and preparation. WordPress developer Stephen Britton will show you how the bad guys work and what you can do to stop them from breaking into your WordPress site. And should your site ever get hacked, you will learn how to fix it and get it running again.

Stephen Britton bio

Stephen has been on the web since 1994, in the days of Netscape Navigator and 56K modems. In 1995, he coded his first website with an HTML editor called Hot Metal Pro. Since then, he has helped numerous start-ups and established businesses get on the web with a variety of technologies, including PHP, Perl, JavaScript, AJAX, jQuery, and ASP. For the past five years, he has concentrated on building websites with open source content management systems, including WordPress, Joomla, Drupal and Concrete5. He has been using WordPress since 2008.

These days, he is a freelance developer and recently started a project based on the Ruby on Rails framework.

As usual, we'll be asking for a $5 donation to help cover the costs of the light snacks we provide and the meetup fees. But the payment is optional and shouldn't be deterrent to anyone who wants to come and learn.
