Developers: Ready! Filter! Action!
Details
One of the most powerful (and proper) ways to modify WordPress core, theme, or plugin behavior is through the use of action and filter hooks. This month, Amanda Giles (http://www.amandagiles.com) will explain what hooks are, how to find them, and how to use them to effectively alter the default behavior of WordPress core, themes, or plugins to do our bidding.
Be aware - we will be rolling up our sleeves and diving head first into some serious PHP code so this is not a beginner session. If you're not sure what PHP is or don't care to poke around under the WordPress hood, it might be best to check out the Users meetup instead which meets on the second Thursday of each month.
***
WordPress users and developers of all levels are welcome at all of our meetups. Developers meetups are held on the 1st Wed of each month. At our Developers meetups, the topics tend to be focused on the the back-end coding and development of sites from scratch or business practices related to making a living from WordPress, etc. Our Users meetup on the 2nd Thurs of each month focus on less technical topics which are of interest to all WordPress users. You will find a casual and friendly bunch of folks at our meetups and time is available for networking and shout-outs.
If you are interested in giving a 10-15 minute lightning talk about something (longer talks are fine too!), please let me know (amanda@amandagiles.com). These talks can be about anything WordPress/web related (social media, SEO, useful plugins/themes, business practices, code practices or tools, etc.).
