The Story “From the start one thing was certain, the Music Factory would not be another music school in a crowded market, or even a bigger one for that matter. Rather, it would simply be a better one than all the rest.” With that in mind, Danny and Anthony of the Music factory set out to create an innovative music school that would offer the next generation of musicians a more practical approach to music lessons and a comprehensive musical experience. But how? In order to succeed, they would have to devise a strategy that played to their strengths.

This story began a few years ago, but the journey began more than 20 years ago when Danny and Anthony first discovered their passion for music… Long before Danny Thompson was playing drums for his current group, iconic punk band Face to Face (best known for song “Disconnected,” a staple on KROQ’s daily song rotation and found on Guitar Hero 5), he was honing his musical skills in his hometown of Chicago, Illinois where he began playing drums at the age of 10 and never looked back. After years of music lessons and a student at Columbia College in Chicago, Danny met Jim Ellison and joined the band Material Issue, with whom he would spend the following years expanding his musical prowess. In the early 90’s, Material Issue broke out with their Mercury records release “International Pop Overthrow,” including the hit single “Valerie Loves Me” which can still be heard on the World Famous KROQ. At that point in Danny’s life, it was clear to him that music was his passion and bringing music into the lives of others was something that would always be important to him.

Far from Chicago, Illinois, Anthony was born in Donauwoerth, Germany. Like Danny, Anthony also developed musical talent at an early age; performing in vocals, drums, and percussion. Growing up, his formal music education included rigorous private studies with world-renowned contemporary artists, spanning all genres throughout Europe and the U.S. As a young adult, Anthony formally educated himself at the Jazz and Rock School in Freiburg, Germany (satellite school of Berkley College of Music in Boston, MA) and Music College in Regensburg, Germany where he earned a degree in Jazz and Contemporary Music and Education. As his passion for music grew, so did his ambitions of inspiring others through music. In 2005, while both were living in Southern California and were management employees at Guitar Center, Danny and Anthony quickly discovered that their passion for music and sharing music with others was equally great. As their relationship grew, so did their dreams of making music more meaningful for themselves and others. They both decided that in order to make this dream a reality, they would have to leave the confines of the corporate world in exchange for a place where they could truly share there dreams with the rest of the world.

It wasn’t until a few days later, when Danny and Anthony were sharing their passion for the sport of cycling and training along the coast of Southern California, that the concept of the Music Factory began to take shape. But what would give the Music Factory the leverage they needed to set themselves apart from the crowd? How would they be better? After a few promising ideas were shared, Danny and Anthony decided that the Music Factory would take a new approach to the music lesson and differentiate itself from any other music school with four crucial differences…
