Android Wear and The Pains of Swift

Details

This month brings a new exhibition in the Science Gallery, which means we have an exciting change of venue. Our comrades in Intercom (http://intercom.io) have generously offered their event space in the heart of Dublin, beside St. Stephen's Green. Freed of the specified close time constraint of the Gallery, we are starting a little later than usual, at 7pm.

There may very well be a few snacks.

Android Wear: A Brief Guide

Can your watch tell you when you are going to miss your train? What is a so-called watch, anyway, maybe something your Uncle used to have? Stephen McBride (http://twitter.com/steemcb) will whet your appetite on the creation of apps for wearable devices and inform you of the caveats and limitations of wearable platforms, specifically Android Wear (http://www.android.com/wear/).

Swift: The Pain Points Panel

Sébastien Molines is still in pain after creating his first Swift-coded app, and he wants to tell us all about it. He's written apps before in Objective-C and is well-placed to iterate through the various aches that developers attempting to create a pure Swift app will suffer.

Sébastien's talk will serve as the intro to a panel on the topic of Swift, its maturity and tradeoffs to be considered by developers when choosing to adopt it or not, based on direct experiences. Our panel will be joined by Neil Cremins (https://twitter.com/ncremins) and Damien Glancy (https://twitter.com/dglancy). Bring your questions!

Public Announcement
