Secular Meditation

Details

In his Humanist Haven talk, Rick Heller will discuss the history of meditation as a secular practice over the last forty years. He will also lead attendees in a loving-kindness meditation, which has been shown to elevate mood and even, in a study done at Yale, to reduce bias against stigmatized groups.

Rick Heller is the author of Secular Meditation: 32 Practices for Cultivating Inner Peace, Compassion, and Joy — A Guide from the Humanist Community at Harvard. Rick has led meditations at the Humanist Community at Harvard since 2009. As a freelance journalist, Rick has reported for the Lowell Sun and been published in Tikkun, Free Inquiry, and The Humanist magazines.
