Climb up to Chino Hills State Park w short hike before turning around - 1 hour

I am starting an afternoon hike to accommodate some of you who said you would be interested in that time, but I need to make it toward the end of my day so that I can just go get the kids and then go home and shower.

We will meet between 3:20 and 3:30 p.m. and begin walking promptly at 3:30 p.m.

We will climb the hill that's part of the Yorba Linda Park District entrance to Chino Hills State Park, hike on the much flatter ground we find at the top, and then turn around and return the same way to our cars. We will be done by 4:35 p.m.

This is a real climb! Those who are young and work out regularly will get a mild workout; it's a great workout for someone like me (47 but in good shape); and it's hard for those who don't get much physical activity. Those who have hiked with me know what that all means. Those of you who are new to the group and unsure if this hike is for you: feel free to show up and start with us, and then separate from the group if I go too slow or fast for you.

Wear comfortable shoes with good traction, bring poles if you have problems with your knees or hips, bring water, wear sunscreen, and plan time for a shower when we are done.

To find us, take Fairmont or Yorba Linda Blvd to the intersection of Fairmont and Yorba Linda Blvd in Yorba Linda. Go north on Fairmont past Bastanchury and watch for Quarter Horse Drive on your left after a quarter of a mile. Turn left onto Quarter Horse Drive and follow it around the curve to the first place you can turn right, which will be the parking lot that we are meeting at.

No "yes" RSVPs by Monday evening will cancel this hike. Rainfall before the hike or expected rain during the hike will cancel the hike. If you aren't sure whether the hike is cancelled, check here and if it has been cancelled, it will be marked as such. If I am not sure whether it will need to be cancelled, I may wait until the night before to make that decision, but if you check the same morning and the hike is still posted, I'll be there!
