The Young Jamaican Professionals Meetup (YJP) is looking to bring together like-minded individuals who have interests in the betterment of Jamaicans in the Diaspora as well as back home.We will operate under the guidance and tutelage of the Jamaica Progressive League (the League); the League was founded in 1936 to improve the quality of life for all Jamaicans. The League, which is headquartered in the Bronx, has continued to be a crucial component in the quest for positive immigration reform in the United States and nation building back in Jamaica. They’ve realized they must do all they can to groom the next generation to continue the struggle and hence the YJP was created. The YJP will provide a forum to discuss the many issues affecting the Jamaican community here and at large. It will be a place to share fresh new ideas and network with other professionals with a common goal. Topics that the YJP will like to contribute to include immigration, politics, as well as dispel the negative stereotypes associated with Jamaicans. This group won’t be all seriousness and politics; we will also have fun experiencing all the rich Jamaican arts and culture that is abundant in New York City.
