Based on the member poll, there was strong interest in this book.  I have read it already, and it's wonderful!  We'll keep the same format--same coffee shop, same time,  but some folks expressed interest in earlier in the week, so we'll try Monday.  Hope you can make it!

It was lovely meeting everyone and sharing ideas about the novel. Beth's idea that Dellarobia's character arc is similar to the metamorphosis of the monarchs resonated with me. But the ending still leaves me unsettled, as I am not sold on Della's survival. The survival of the insects seems more promising as they could take over the world. They are masters of disguise and adapt quickly to change. I believe we all asked if the flood is a biblical reference, perhaps not literal as we do not know where these waters originate. If so, then Della's survival makes sense. Kingsolver certainly left us plenty to ponder, to think about the consequences of our interactions on our environment. 4stars

Ack -- been having problems with my browser losing all my tabs saved for later use (like this one), & meanwhile my birthday dinner for my former partner had to be moved to the evening of this event since this avoided a conflict for her, so i'll have to miss this. (& the 1 time there's a group meeting within walking distance of where i live!) Oh well, guess life's just full of conflicts~~~~~~~

Hey folks--I'm sorry I've been a very quiet organizer. I have been on the road pretty much continuously for work. Let's meet--this time--at the Peet's Coffee on Fruitvale Ave (across the street from Farmer Joe's). We won't have a private room, but it is 1) in the neighborhood and 2) open on a Monday, which is important this time. We seem to like the other location--we'll go back there next time, if all agree.
Also, I will be coming pretty much directly from the airport, so if my flight is late, I may need to delegate a leader in my absence.

Just found a copy of the book at the library, but where/when will it be, since at the last discussion the people at this cafe said they weren't open Mon.evenings?

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
