The weather seems to be good for this weekend. I suggest to do a long hike, in total approx. 5,5- 6 hours. The train leaves at 7.40 am, so this means that by 7.30 am we will leave for the train- for those of you who do not have a ticket, I will be there at 7.20 am- please do not come at 7.30 am and then start buying tickets since we will not have time for this.
The hike of the day consists of two nice hikes which I have combined into one. The first hike is from obererbs to aempachli (duration of hike is 1u40 min). In Aemapchli we will take the cable-car down back to the village of Elm. in Elm we will start the fifteen kilometer Suworow Trail (i.e. walk from Elm to Schwanden via Matt and Engi). The trail always follow the river Sernf and the trail starts at approx. 1000 meters and ends at around 750 meters, mostly going down. The length is 15 kilometer, hiking duration given is 4 hours and difficulty is graded as easy. For those of you who consider the 15km too long, there is a possibility to board the bus in Engi or Matt.
I suggest to take the 7:40 am train-> arrive 08.46 Schwanden
depart Schwanden 08.52-> arrive Elm 09.10 (bus)
depart elm 09.15-> arrive obererbs (9.30 am)
around 9.45 we will start hiking so will get to aempachli by 11.30 and by cable car at 11.45 am /noon at elm.
You need to buy a train/bus ticket to Obererbs.
Return from Schwanden to zurich
I assume that on saturday some restaurants are open on the way (in the villages), so we will stop on the route. For those who are hungry or need small snacks, please bring this along.
* hiking shoes/sneakers;
* rain gear (weather can change any time)
* smile/good mood
* snacks (optional)
The idea would be to take a return train around 17 or 17.30. Please note that the bus from Schwanden to Elm only has 50 spaces, so if we are doing this hike with a huge group I would need to call the bus company to ensure we have sufficient stops reserved.
