Announcing a new Meetup for Zurich Hike & Outdoor!

What: Chamonix

When: Friday, April 16,[masked]:45 PM

Where:
MAINSTATION
Z?rich Hauptbahnhof
Z?RICH

Dear All,

For those of you who does not know Chamonix is a magic place at the bottom of the Mont-Blanc. It is well known with hiking and climbing enthousiasts in the summer and skiers in the winter. The chamonix valley allows skiing at various locations (Brevent/Flegere, les tours and grand montets area) and there is something for everyone (off-piste, moguls, beginners etc.). I have been here many many times and know the slopes relatively well.

The skiing area in Grand Montets is normally open till beginning of May and skiing in April has the advantage that you get exposed to the sun (get nice sun tan) and in the evening you can enjoy the summer feeling already. Additionally the sunset and various changing colours of the Mont Blanc Massif are really impressive and allow spectacular pictures.

The idea would be to enjoy the last couple of days skiing before the end of the season or alternatively for those who had enough from skiing go for a hike in the valley. Since on Monday it is Sechselauten in zurich and an official holiday in Zurich, I suggest to go for an extended weekend.
Since Chamonix is in France, the time and frequency of trains is not that great. The last train departing on Friday night is 5.04 pm arriving at midnight (=7hours), therefor I suggest to take the following connections:

Friday 16.04 departure zurich HB at 4pm arriving at 8.33pm which means approx. 9 pm in hotel.
Monday 19.04 departure Chamonix 4.16pm arriving in zurich 9pm

I suggest to stay in following hotel (the hotel stated that they can cook for a large group like us)- a ski shop is 5 minutes from the hotel and you can get 20% discount. We can also go to Chamonix in the evening for a drink and/or when you want to buy end of season skis, poles, skiwear etc.
