The Zurich Swiss Trail Club (STC) events will include Hikes, Via Ferrata events, Snowshoeing, Skiing and from time to time Biking. There will be events scheduled for various levels of fitness. Activities will be posted with levels of difficulty.

Previous Alpine experience with hiking, a Via Ferrata, snowshoeing and skiing will be required on most activities, as it applies.

Previous experience on group outings is required for all activities (outings with a few persons, or alone, are not the same as contributing to a group outing and dynamic).

Following standard hiking etiquette, for groups, is required on all hikes and snowshoe outings.

Managing groups on hikes can be challenging; therefore, standard hiking etiquette has been put into place to help make group activities more enjoyable for all. They apply to snowshoe hikes too. The etiquette is commonly used within organizations such as the Swiss Alpine Club. A few simple rules make it much easier to hike with a group.

Please review the 'Hiking Etiquette' document on this link.

These are GROUP OUTINGS. We do not want anyone:

• to be left behind, lost or to spend the day alone,
• to miss the beauty of the planned route,
• to find themselves in a dangerous situation,
• to find themselves on terrain which is more difficult than they prepared for.

We WANT everyone to have an enjoyable GROUP experience. Therefore, the following steps have been put into place:

• activities will be limited in number,
• co-leaders (sweeps) will be assigned to activities as required, and
• Standard Hiking & Biking Etiquette, for groups, will be put into practice (see below).

• we will form a circle; introduce the leader and the sweep (co-leader)

• attendees will be asked to introduce themselves with their first name

• any required details for the activity (distance, terrain, conditions and/or getting there and back) will be given

• we will start and finish the activity together

• wear appropriate shoes or boots and layered clothing - once an outing has started it will usually continue in spite of the weather - be prepared for changes in the weather and for extreme conditions

• these are nature outings; therefore, plenty of water will be required as restaurants, kiosks and shops will be avoided where possible; on longer outings packed food is required

• periodic, short stops will be made to drink and put on or take off clothing dependent upon weather

• as there are generally no rest room facilities, bushes and rocks serve in their stead

• at about the midpoint of a longer outing a "snack/lunch stop" will be taken

• the leader may choose to change the duration of the outing or the route or the pace dependent upon weather or physical conditions of the group

• everyone is invited to have a coffee or a drink afterwards

• please take note of the 'No Show' policy found under Pages on this group

• Membership is free
• The events are not designed for children under sixteen unless specified.
• No pets are allowed on the outings.
