This is a group for anyone into backcountry skiing, backcountry snowboarding, touring, splitboarding. You don't have to live in Zurich to join.

There's already a bunch of groups focused on beginner to intermediate skiers, or groups organizing courses such as avalanche courses or other "guide-based" activities. This group is for those who are confident enough to venture into the backcountry without a guide, and are used to being responsible for their own safety.

It is an absolute minimum that you have a working transciever (and know how to use it), shovel and probe. Do not join these meetups without this basic equipment, as you would potentially jeopardize the safety of the group. UNLESS SPECIFICALLY STATED NO ONE ORGANISING A MEETUP ON THIS GROUP IS A PROFESSIONAL. MEMBERS MUST TAKE COMPLETE RESPONSIBILTY FOR THEIR OWN SAFETY.

With that out of the way, come enjoy good snow with us! There will be both lift-based days and ski touring/splitboarding days.

Anyone can create a meetup "activity". Here are some guidelines for safe riding/skiing together:

1. Planning: Indicate in the description what kind of activity your organizing. If there's (uphill) touring involved, write a description of ascent elevation, gradient, type of terrain. It is generally a bad idea to be more than 6-8 persons in the backcountry together, if it isn't a super-easy day. Check your equipment, doble-check your transciever battery. Be environmentally conscious and share a car or take the train.

2. The day: Full transciever check at the parking lot/trailhead. Do NOT accept anyone without a working transciever and probe+shovel to join.

3. Afterwards: Drink beer!

We just grab a coffee and speak French. Some people have been coming every week for months... it creates a kind of warmth to the group.
