From its origins in mid 90s Semantic Technology has slowly matured and gained favor as a disruptive force within enterprises. While the Semantic Web’s reputation precedes its use, the broader semantic technology patterns have emerged in all sorts of places. From consumer facing projects like Siri, LinkedIn, and Facebook to enterprises like Walmart, Viacom, and Google the patterns of big data variability are the same. This presentation will therefore introduce semantic technology and describe how a PHP Developers can incorporate the technology into their initiatives.

Mark van Berkel is a Guelph based entrepreneur applying semantic technologies to the Home Industry. Previously he was an SAP Architect and enterprise software consultant who worked in the US, UK, continental Europe and Asia. He has a Bachelor of Information Systems from StFX and did his grad studies at UofT, getting a Master of Engineering in Information Engineering and a MBA in Strategy and Innovation.
