Ten Ways to Improve Accessibility Today: A Developer's Perspective

  • Jan 30, 2013 · 6:30 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

Join Billy Gregory (Front-end Developer, Accessibility Lead, CGI) and Ryan Burgess (Front-end Developer, Architect, CGI) who will show ten "tricks' we've learned to take the fear out of accessibility for any developer just starting with accessibility, split between five things devs are probably already doing as well as five they can start doing right away."

Billy and Ryan are also the driving force behind the soon-to-be-launched CodeResponsible.com, an online resource for the Responsible Developer which they will also talk about.

If you are a developer, this talk is for you! We encourage you to spread the word amongst devs you know, and encourage them to join the meetup and RSVP.

Darn! Really wanted to come out to this last night, but I was in no condition to do so. :( Next month for sure!

BTW, you can find the details of the accessibility position on workopolis: http://workopolis.com/jobsearch/job/14270334?uc=E8. A few details on our forums: http://www.meetup.com/a11yTo/messages/boards/thread/30725262

Thanks for a great presentation and discussion! The List Apart article we talked about is here: http://alistapart.com/blog/post/on-alt-text. I found the comments very enlightening.

Also, in case anyone is interested, I have posted my sketchnote of last night's event here: http://blog.devlin.ca/2013/01/10-ways-to-improve-accessibility/

Yes, I realize that a sketchnote is not all that accessible; however, in my defence, my goal is to reach out to other designers to create awareness of accessible design. Great design CAN be inclusive, and it's time the design community embraces this mindset.

Love your sketchnotes! And you're right, we should cater to the designers as well.
