What we’re about
Meetup for support with other local sufferers and survivors of the oesophageal disorder, Achalasia. Achalasia is diagnosed when the esophagus is less able to move food toward the stomach and the valve from the oesophagus to the stomach does not relax as much as it needs to during swallowing.

## Title: Late Diagnosis and Misdiagnosis of Achalasia - Report Launch and Meeting with Experts
Date and Time: 1 October, 6.00-7.30pm
Join us for Achalasia Action's upcoming meeting with achalasia experts with:
Majid Hashemi FRCS, Consultant Upper GI Surgeon
and guest speakers including:
Professor Anthony Hobson PhD, Clinical Physiology Scientist, Director Functional Gut, London
This meeting brings together people with achalasia and a panel of expert health professionals - to enable people with achalasia to get information from the experts and have their key questions answered. Questions on achalasia diagnosis are invited in advance.
We will also present findings and recommendations from our Late Diagnosis and Misdiagnosis of Achalasia report, which we will be publishing in late September.
For the best chance of your questions being answered, please send them by Friday 26 September at the latest. Please send your questions to Amanda Ladell on amandaladell@achalasia-action.org
There will be an opportunity to use the ‘chat’ function to ask questions during the session, but we cannot guarantee that we can answer all of them. You are also welcome to join the meeting and just listen.
This meeting will be online with the session being open for logging on 10 minutes beforehand. Due to issues with large numbers attending, all those taking part except for speakers will normally be muted.
Please also look out for the smaller informal virtual meetings, where conversations with others with achalasia will be easier and give the opportunity for following up on unanswered questions and issues arising from the meeting. You can sign up for these meetings here: https://www.meetup.com/achalasia-104/
If you are interested in finding out more about achalasia, please visit our website and sign up for our newsletters: https://www.achalasia-action.org/newsletter/
All meetings are free for participants to join, as our specialist speakers give their time to Achalasia Action for free. Achalasia Action is a small, fully volunteer-led charity with no paid staff or premises. We strive to operate an efficient and effective organisation that fulfils our charitable purpose to improve the lives of people with achalasia and their loved ones.
We would be unable to continue our charitable support, information and research activities without the generous donations of our supporters. If you felt that the meeting provided you with valuable insight, and you can afford to, please consider making a donation to us on: https://www.achalasia-action.org/donate/
You can also support us by volunteering or fundraising for us. If you'd like to find out more, please contact us on: info@achalasia-action.org
Looking forward to seeing you at 6pm on 1st October 2025.
