The Adult Autism Spectrum Friends Community is an activity, mutual support, advocacy, etc. group for Adults on the Autism Spectrum (18 years and older) living in Maryland, Northern Virginia, and Washington, D.C.  This group is run by an Autistic Adult, for Autistic Adults.  We are an inclusive group, all Autistic diagnoses are welcome (Asperger's Syndrome, Autistic Disorder, PDD-NOS, etc.).  If you are an adult who has an aide in order to do things, feel free to bring them with you, but please let the organizer know ahead of time.  Being an Adult on the Autism Spectrum means that it is harder for us to get to know people and make friends than our NT counterparts, the aim of this group is to make it easier in a more relaxed atmosphere where you can be yourself, stims and all!  Eye contact is not essential to be part of this group; all you need is a desire to do neat things!  Not all Autistics act the same, but all deserve your respect.  This group exists in a No Making Fun of Fellow Members Zone, if you do carry-on in that way you will be confronted, if it continues, you will be asked to leave the group.  When we are together we can fully be ourselves, one can "let their guard down" and relax.  The kinds of activities that we will host will be anything from playing board games to going to exhibits to Autism advocacy, etc.  This is our group, ideas are always appreciated!  Join us, share your experiences, learn about the best resources, and keep updated on Autism Activism.  Nothing About Us Without Us!  Think of us as a group of friends that help each other cope with a world that doesn't always understand us.  Never be ashamed of who you are!  Come work on your social skills, celebrate your triumphs or share your struggles and sorrows, we are here to support one another, maybe even make a friend or two!  Let's build an Autistic Community together!
