No-Host Event! This FREE event is being presented by the Mountaineers. This event is open to all (you do not need to be a Mountaineers Members, but you do have to sign-up as a guest). Hikers! Learn what to put in your pack, how to dress for comfort and safety, and what to expect on a Mountaineers hike. Experienced Mountaineer hiking leaders will discuss clothing, boots, and pack, the Ten Essentials, seasonal trail hazards, where to shop for equipment (and save money), and how to research your hikes. This seminar is designed to answer questions you, as a beginning hiker or new Mountaineer member, may have about how to get started. We will show samples of our equipment and show pictures of some of our favorite places to hike. There is NO COST for this seminar! You don't have to be a Mountaineers member to attend. However, sign-up is required for this seminar with a limit of 75. Members and non-members are asked to utilize the on-line registration system via The Mountaineers website to ensure that there will be adequate seating and your name is added to the roster (FYI: registering via MeetUp does not add your name to the roster). If assistance is needed to sign-up, please call The Mountaineers Member Services at 206-521-6000. A minimum of ten participants is required by the sign-up close time or the seminar will be canceled and the affected participants will be notified accordingly via the email address provided during sign-up.

Directions

The Mountaineers Program Center is located within Seattle's Magnuson Park, in the Sand Point neighborhood, on the western shores of Lake Washington and minutes from the University of Washington.

From I-5Method 1: Exit at NE 65th St and head east on NE 65th. Continue on 65th until you reach the stop light at Sand Point Way NE. Turn left. Proceed north until you reach the main entrance to Magnuson Park on your right. This is approximately NE 74th and has a stop light. Turn right, into the park. As you enter, you will pass a vacant guard station. Immediately turn left after this and proceed on the access road that runs parallel to Sand Point Way NE until you reach The?Mountaineers Program Center.

Method 2: From Highway 520, exit at Montlake Blvd. Turn north (right if you came from the east, left if you came from the west). Follow Montlake Blvd. north. After you pass Husky Stadium and the UW athletic fields, it curves to the right and becomes NE 45th St. A short while later, it curves to the left and becomes Sand Point Way NE. Continue almost two miles until you reach the main entrance to Magnuson Park, roughly at 74th NE, on your right. As you enter, you will pass a vacant guard station. Immediately turn left after this and proceed on the access road that runs parallel to Sand Point Way NE until you reach The Mountaineers Program Center.

Bus Information
There are three buses that come by Magnuson Park - No.'s 30, 74 and 75. All three buses stop just in front of our building. Walking/Cycling
Magnuson Park is located near the Burke-Gilman Trail, a walk/bike path that covers 14 miles from Seattle's Fremont neighborhood to Kirkland's Tracy Owen Station. We encourage our members and the general public to take advantage of this spectacular trail. For more information and maps, visit the Seattle Parks & Recreation website on the Burke Gilman Trail (http://www.ci.seattle.wa.us/parks/BurkeGilman/bgtrail.htm). You can reach our building by leaving the trail at NE 77th St. and heading east.
