Announcing a new Meetup for Atlanta Scrum Users Group!
What: VersionOne Open House with Olav Maassen - Talk on Real Options
When: Wednesday, May 11, 2011 6:00 PM
Where: (A location has not been chosen yet.)
Why: Free beer is good and Real Options are cool!
5220 Shiloh Rd. Alpharetta, GA
On Wednesday May 11th VersionOne will be hosting both Olav Maassen and a general open house.
Olav will be delivering a talk on "Real Options" (see outline below) after having just given this talk at the Lean Software & Systems Conference in Long Beach, CA. Olav has over a decade of experience with IT projects (primarily with financial institutions) and is a principal consultant for Xebia in the Netherlands.
Having Olav come hang out at VersionOne for a couple of days seemed like a good enough excuse to throw a bit of a party too…
VersionOne helped pioneer the agile management tool in 2002 – way before it was the cool thing to do in the software development market. VersionOne is based in Alpharetta, GA and their software is used by over 30,000 teams all over the world. VersionOne would like to welcome the Atlanta agile and software community to its open house to have fun, network and take in a talk by an international speaker. Before and after Olav's talk there will be music, pool, ping pong, prizes, drinks, food and fun. We know it's a bit of a trek out to our neck of the woods but it will be worth it to learn from the talk, check out a company that has been practicing agile for almost a decade and connect with other agilists in the community. The food and drink doesn't hurt either.
The evening will get going at 6pm with Olav's talk starting around 6:30pm. The open house ends when people leave.
Improve your decision making by using Real Options
The freedom to choose is the underlying principle of many things we appreciate. A concept that is at the heart of Real Options. An understanding of Real Options allows us to clearly distinguish between decisions and commitments and why this is important. It helps us play with these and manage our risks much better than before.
Real Options is a simple (but not simplistic) model: options have value, options expire and never commit early unless you know why.
Real Options is NOT about “deferring decisions to the last responsible moment”. It is a risk management approach to help improve decision making.
Check it out!
