UX Interventions, UI Frameworks

1. Staging A UX Intervention, Luke Charde
Your beloved application/website needs UX/UI help... everyone knows it.  It’s time to sit down for an honest look at the situation and formulate a treatment plan.  Here’s some proven approaches and techniques that can help you work toward recovery.

2. Leveraging Frameworks in User Interface Design, Jason Cortes
Grid Systems, UI Components, Twitter Bootstrap... there are a variety of open source front-end style, layout and interaction component libraries that can be leveraged to jumpstart a project’s interfaces. We’ll look at some solutions in this space and what they can (and cannot) do for your project.

3. Usability Tidbits: Visual Cognition, Clay Barnes

A series of themed discussions around a sub-field of Human-Computer Interaction, designed to be independent comprehensible in minutes, and interesting, while still providing broadly applicable understanding useful for common real-world situations.

I've not been involved with web designer for a number of years so it was interesting learning new terms and concepts.

A fine meetup last night. Kudos to our three presenters. That the presentations had no overlap in terms of theme and content is an interesting reflection on the diversity within our group and in the "user experience" field.
Luke - overview of how UX can/should inform the entire product lifecycle - from defining needs to visual design.
Jason - a look at bootstrap, which I am absolutely going to carve out time in my schedule next week to play with.
Clay - delved into some of the theoretical underpinnings that inform interaction design. though most folks can probably get by with practical (as opposed to theoretical) knowledge of interaction design principles, I find that awareness of cognitive psychological theory allows a designer to work more confidently when unique design tensions present themselves and allows designer to know when to stray from convention.
    Great job everyone.
