The process of building a website

This month we'll be talking about our process for building a websites and the steps we take to ensure that they're successful.  This will be a rather high-level look at how we approach things, though it may get a bit technical at times depends on where the questions lead.

Be thinking about your own process for site development, as we want everyone to share and learn from each other.

As always, this is a discussion, so please come prepared to share your questions and ideas regarding this topic, as well as any other WordPress questions you might have. The Meetup is free, because our space is free, however we ask you to please RSVP so we can save a space for you.

Be sure to bring your laptop if possible, and you're welcome to bring your lunch if you'd like.

See you then!

Here is the link to the WordPress Owner's Emergency Checklist I mentioned. Take a few minutes to add all your website related account information, then save the document in a safe place.

This meetup was great! I brought my teen aged son (aka webmaster) and he really got a lot out of the meeting as well. He's looking forward to next one as am I.

If you're interested, here's the blog post on GreenMellen's process for websites:

Here are the tools we touched on yesterday:
    - - Display your designs to your clients
    - - create sitemaps and export them in a click of a button to your Wordpress site.
    - - password vault
    - - password vault

Here is the basic version of our "launch checklist" as discussed today. This certainly varies from site to site, but we start with this list:
    - Activate Google Analytics
    - Verify all in-page links are pointed to live site instead of test site.
    - Verify all widget links are pointed to the live site.
    - Verify all hard-coded CSS links are pointed to the live site.
    - Verify all nav menu links are pointed to the live site.
    - Verify any custom functions.php functions are pointed to the live site.
    - Disable any unused plugins
    - Load favicon
    - Set WP to allow search engine indexing
    - Make sure forms are set to send to proper recipients
    - Add redirects for all old URLs to the new ones
    - Enable Jetpack sharing icons
    - Set up authorship; disable from pages via Yoast SEO
    - Add site to Google Webmaster Tools

Don't think this was for the casual newbie I found the talk very access alb and helpful. Seemed from cursory observation most who attended were in the business. My acronym issue was addressed immediately which was a big help. Now how do I get started making a Wordpress site? You help me I cook for you

Mark -- This one was a bit more aimed at other "WordPress people". The next one should be more straightforward, as we talk about customizing themes. Be sure to check out Kathy's Meetup as well, as she's going through the basic steps of getting started:

I love to eat and help people learn to use WordPress. Mark loves to cook and is eager to build a WordPress site. Sounds like a good match.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
