Join this group if you have ever wanted to
-- learn more about the current, human rights issues affecting others globally and at home,
-- help others who are oppressed and suffering, but perhaps didn't quite know how,
-- just meet other conscientious, free-thinking people.
Whether you're new to human rights issues or have been an activist for decades, this is where you can learn about and promote human rights in an informative and active, yet fun and supportive atmosphere, surrounded by great food and friends. We'll meet at least once a month, in a variety of different places, such as restaurants, private homes, performance halls, & meeting rooms where you can choose to
1) listen to guest speakers - ranging from experts in the field to
first-hand accounts of human rights abuse.
2) watch human rights films
3) have round table discussions
4) take action to raise awareness, free prisoners of conscience, help women/children
survivors of abuse, &/or repeal or amend laws that violate human rights through
a) letter writing sit-ins,
b) tabling events,
c) organizing donations to shelters,
d) lobbying by phone, mail, or in person,
e) workshops on lobbying, public speaking, or other suggested topic, or
f) fundraising events (concerts, coffeehouses, wine/food tasting, bake sales, etc.)
So please, come visit, bring your friends, and enjoy spending time together while you help to end grave abuses of human rights. You CAN make a difference!
