OpenAPI is the new name for what was previously referred to as the Swagger specification. Swagger has been successfully used to design, describe, generate, validate thousands of APIs in companies all around the world. A sure sign of a successful products is that the users want it to do more. Judging by the Open API Github repository, there are many more features users want to see incorporated into the next version of the OpenAPI specification. Also, experience in creating APIs has identified places where improvements could be made to make it quicker to create, easier to maintain and more expressive to support more common scenarios.

Work on version 3.0 of the spec is still on going, but many changes have already been incorporated. Come and learn how the next version of OpenAPI is going to help you design, document and implement better HTTP APIs.

For the last 10 years he's been focused on getting the most out of HTTP as a distributed application protocol for building rich business applications. Darrel is recognized as an industry expert on the use of HTTP, REST and Hypermedia to build connected systems.

More recently Darrel has been speaking at conferences world-wide about HTTP and REST APIs. Darrel is a published O'Reilly author and prolific writer of technical blog posts. He's actively involved in contributing to OSS projects, those he created and others.

Darrel enjoys helping developers learn technical material, solve problems and help their users be more productive.
