MapReduce on App Engine

  • July 14, 2010 · 6:30 PM
  • Googleplex - Floor 1, Room 111

In this meetup, we'll have Mike Aizatsky from the App Engine and the developer of the mapper APIs talk about using MapReduce on the App Engine. The AppEngine-MapReduce is an open-source library for doing MapReduce-style computations on the Google App Engine platform (http://mapreduce.apps.... As of today, it contains a mapper implementation that provides a fast and efficient way to iterate over datastore entities and blob files. In the future, it will expand to provide full MapReduce support, including the shuffle and reduce stages.

It was a great start for the AppEngine to include the Mapper... Excited and waiting for the Reducer API... Could anyone share the link to the first demo???

Its a weak offering, since it does not have reduce. More-over the API is not compatible with Hadoop, which means I will be locked-in to Google's API.

Amazon and Microsoft have better offerings, so its not clear what Google is doing with this offering.

Intro speakers and post-talk speakers were excellent!
Main speaker was not that great a speaker. He left out important details and steps for people like myself trying to learn what appengine is and how to get started with it.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
