We'll use Swift code to build an elegant WATCH app from scratch. Ben Morrow will lead the session for beginner to intermediate level. By the end you'll have a bonafide app you can run on the Apple Watch.
About WatchKit
When WatchKit was released around Thanksgiving, Apple introduced a few new concepts like glances, actionable notifications, and extensions.
We'll cover all of these. By connecting to an API, you can really provide a delightful user experience. At the end of the day, you'll have a solid grasp of how to make your very own full fledged Watch app.
This face-to-face instruction is the perfect fit for you if you've been dreaming of building apps. The time has come to set aside one day and do a deep dive. You can be ready to launch an app when the Watch comes out in the Spring.
Homework
Even if you’ve never built an app before, welcome! We want you here. After all, we’re all beginners at this new platform. May I suggest as preparation, attending one of our "Hello WatchKit" meetup events or catching the video afterwards.
These "Hello WatchKit" meetup events provide an overview of the concepts, and then in this Bootcamp we'll cover the nitty-gritty details.
By investing a bit of time up front, you’ll have experienced the interface and it will make it easier to follow along while we build our app. I'll do my best to make sure that no one gets left behind. We'll also have a floating mentor providing individualized instruction.
Logistics
We'll host two duplicate days in one weekend: Saturday in SF (https://www.meetup.com/apple-watch/events/219161628/) and this one on Sunday in Silicon Valley.
We'll be providing healthy food, snacks, and drinks. (Nonetheless, it would be a good idea to have brunch before you come so you're fueled up and ready to learn.)
We take breaks along the way, so there will be plenty of chances to use the bathroom and ask individual questions.
Please plan on being there for the entire session and arriving on time because we'll get started right away.
