Intro to Programming

If you interact with software developers on a daily basis or are interested in becoming one, this class is for you. You'll learn the basics of writing code and gain a practical foundation with JavaScript, the programming language of the web. This is a hands-on 12 hour crash course and you will be writing code from day one.
Expected class outcomes
• A working knowledge of a JS development environment
• Understand Javascript fundamentals and how they relate to webpages
• Be able to modify the behavior of existing javascript code
• Author simple JS programs
• Be armed with enough information to accelerate further self study

• Node.js & the command line
• Variables, Syntax, Output
• Conditional Logic & Loops
• Arrays, Objects, Functions, Methods,
• Javascript on the web and the DOM API
• A brief intro to jQuery & programming UIs
Format
There will be four class sessions taught over two consecutive Monday and Wednesday nights from 6pm to 9pm for a total of 12 hours of instruction. There will be two instructors present for class - one to deliver material and one to assist in setup and debuggin code with students.
Session 1: January 19, 6pm - 9pm
Session 2: January 21, 6pm - 9pm
Session 3: January 26 , 6pm - 9pm
Session 4: January 28, 6pm - 9pm
Requirements
Students only need a computer and a willingness to learn. All ages and skill levels are welcome. PC, Mac, and Linux computers will all work but tablets generally will not. All software used in class is free, and setup instructions will go out before the first class session.
