Abstract: Not only the universe is expanding, it is doing so at an accelerating rate. The nature of the so-called Dark Energy thought to be causing the acceleration is currently unknown, but upcoming astronomical data will dramatically improve our ability to narrow the pool of possibilities. The lecture will review the history leading to the astounding discovery of cosmic acceleration in 1998 and the challenges that cosmologists are addressing today.
About our Events:
All RASC lectures and observing events are open to the public, family friendly, and there is no charge for admission. Our organization is run entirely by volunteers who love astronomy and astrophysics. Whether you're a complete beginner, a seasoned astronomer, or you hope to work for NASA some day, anyone fascinated by space exploration is welcome and will enjoy our events.
