Ahoy all Portland-area Pastafarians!

I wanted to let you know about an upcoming event and urge you to consider attending. The Nortwest Freethough Conference will be held March 25-27 (Friday-Saturday) here in Portland. Attendees should feature athesists, agnostics, secular humanists, pastafarians and other like-minded heretics.

It's a great chance to network, hobknob, kibbitz and generally hang out with those of our ilk. Attendees should be on hand from as far south as Salem or Eugene (wow!) and up north into Vancouver (British Columbia, that is).

Along with opportunities to grow your social circle, the conference features workshops on topics including:

  • Green eating and green burial (not, we hope, at the same time)
  • Giving school children "release time" to attend religion classes, pray, etc.
  • Corrupting social studies curricula to teach that America is a "Christian nation"
  • Current church-state court cases
Keynote speaker will be PZ Myers, nationally prominent blogger and a leading opponent of "intelligent design."

Check it out online at

Save $5 by registering before March 1. You can attend Saturday only for $60 or the full conference for $75. With meals, it's $90 for Saturday only or $115 for the full conference.

I'll be on hand (look for the pirate hat and/or flag) and hope to see as many of you as can make it.

Best wishes & RA-men -- Jack, Portland FSM organizer
