Using Composer for WordPress Site Setup

Details

For our August 2015 workshop we will cover using Composer for a WordPress Site Setup. Meet-and-greet and setup begins at 6:30pm; workshop proper begins at 7pm.

Come early if you need assistance setting up and/or have questions before we begin!

Composer is the PHP dependency management tool that allows developers to set up a central resource of dependencies to a project (ie. a WordPress site). Setting up and rolling out a WordPress site with all its dependencies has never been easier!

With WordPress projects, Composer allows the developer to quickly install and update plugins and themes in bulk, manage versioning, and sustaining best coding management practices for your projects. If you are balancing multiple projects and need a set of dependencies to get a project started, Composer is an important tool to place on your WordPress utility belt.

We will have exercises and scenarios prepared for you to learn the mightiness of Composer.

No experience required! Come learn how easy it is to use Composer to rapidly spin up new WordPress sites!

--------------------

PRE-REQUISITIES:

Please install Composer for Mac OSX (https://getcomposer.org/doc/00-intro.md) or Composer for Windows (https://getcomposer.org/doc/00-intro.md#installation-windows) before you arrive.

If you are using Windows and don't have GIT installed, download GIT for Windows here (https://git-scm.com/downloads).

If you do not already have a local dev setup ready for WordPress development, please try to set that up. Alternatively, you can use the Cloud9 IDE (http://www.c9.io) to spin up a WordPress dev environment, although we cannot guarantee that Composer will work there.

Feel free to email one of the organizers if you have questions in setting up a local dev environment for WordPress.
