First of all, thank you so much for all you do to make this group work. That alone is not an easy task and requires a great deal of dedication. As a foreign language professional myself (Japanese), I can assure folks who have not put some real effort into learning a language from all four of the essential aspects that there is a lot of work that goes into mastering a language. The four aspects are: 1) Reading, 2)Writing, 3) Speaking, and 4) Listening Comprehension. All four are required to master a foreign language, and there are no shortcuts in any of these areas. The key is to have fun while you learn, or else it is just going to seem like work. That's why a group like this is so valuable; you can learn while having fun and making good friends at the same time. So have fun with it, folks!
Best regards to all,

Subject: [atlportuguese] thank you!
Thank you so much for all your feedback, emails, calls and suggestions that you have given me. We will do the Mesa Portuguesa once a month for sure. It is set up to speak and hear Portuguese spoken in an informal setting. The turnout and effort that everyone gave was inspiring to me, and I know what it is like to want to speak this language, and not have anyone to talk to!!
Even though you think you are not learning, every time you expose yourself to the spoken language, you are getting better. Be patient and consistent is my advice, and you will get there. I will help you any way that I can.
That being said, there are a few of you that were not satisfied with this meetup idea, my organizing skills, and/or got nothing from this meetup.
I suggest that you take a class or two, if you need more structure, i.e. tests, quizzes, textbooks, classmates, tuition fees, etc. None of you came to me with suggestions or help, just criticism........no problem.
You are obviously not satisfied with this group and the direction it is going in. You are probably at a plateau in your learning. I wish you much luck in learning this language, and come back and see us when you want to practice in an informal setting, because that is what this is...informal.
Also, try to listen at the meetups, some of your criticisms showed that you obviously did not hear all of my instructions. I will try to speak clearer and louder next time.
I am extremely passionate about people learning to speak this language. I am open to suggestions and advice, all you have to do is reach out and contact me. Easy.
I look forward to helping you guys in the future.
