Only the Brave Prevail

Details

Design is not for the faint of heart. Some projects fulfill sky-high wins, while others leave you feeling crushed and defeated. How do you consistently win as a designer, produce great work and not loose your creative soul in the process? It all comes down to one skill: Bravery. Staying inspired, pushing ideas, selling your work upstream and dealing with difficult people all takes insane courage.

Blake W. Howard is the creative director and co-founder of Matchstic (http://matchstic.com/), a premiere brand identity house based in Atlanta that he started at the age of 22. A Nashville, Tennessee native, and University of Tennessee graduate, Blake has helped build an enthusiastic and focused branding firm, with national recognition, that serves global brands, courageous startups, and ambitious non-profits.

A lover of all things Atlanta, Blake is constantly seeking new ways to better his community. Several years back, he initiated Matchstic’s On the House (http://matchstic.com/about/on-the-house) program, which gives full rebrands to deserving non-profits (donating close to $500,000 in services). He also currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Atlanta Mission and is the organizer for the Atlanta Chapter of Creative Mornings, a monthly breakfast lecture series for creative types.

Most important to Blake, beyond all of this endeavors, is his beautiful wife Kelly and their amazing son, Banner. They enjoy the good life in Kirkwood where they spend their free time reading on the porch, watching Family Feud, and hanging with their dog, George Washington, and cat, Riley.
