Austin is home to several large game studios that make AAA titles for console and PC. These folks do amazing work, but the game industry is changing rapidly. Many games are now built by indie studios with small teams and limited budgets, providing more room for experimentation. These upstarts are targeting new platforms like mobile, HTML5, Steam, microconsoles, VR, wearables, etc.

The goal of this group is to highlight this new world of game dev. Our events focus on the nuts and bolts of building games in a small team or for new platforms. We feature talks by professional and hobbyist developers that are heavy on useful takeaways in areas like engineering, game design, art, production, promoting your title, and more. Our events also provide an opportunity to meet potential collaborators, employees, and partners.

Past presenters include Adam Saltsman (creator of Canabalt), Trent Polack (Creative Director of Team Chaos), Dan Magaha (from GameSalad), Randy Smith and David Kalina (of Tiger Style Games), Jonathan Leistiko (board game designer), Patrick Curry (from Unity Austin), John Watson (Technical Director for The Banner Saga), and Matt Piersall (founder of game audio house GL33k).

We welcome any current or aspiring contributors to the Austin mobile/indie game community, including coders, designers, artists, producers, entrepreneurs, and investors. Join us and help push the Austin game dev scene forward!

Bill

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
