James Renovitch has worked at the Austin Chronicle for a decade. He began as an intern and has held various job titles over the years, including proofreader, gaming editor, tech editor, social media editor, listings editor, writer, database custodian, compost wrangler, and amateur volleyball player. During that time, he's been a first-hand witness to many huge changes in the game industry, including the rise of indie and mobile games.

In a typical day, James' inbox is inundated with roughly 40 press releases, and he does his best to read them all. He also attends and covers many game-related events throughout the year, including Fantastic Arcade and SXSW Interactive. His own tastes veer toward little, personal video games.

For his talk, James will share some tips on how game devs should interact with game journalists. He'll talk about the best and worst ways to get the attention of the press, how to approach a writer or editor (hint: like a human being), and how to spend your marketing budget or get by with your lack of a budget. Austin is incredibly lucky to have a game writer as friendly and enthusiastic as James. Don't miss what promises to be an immensely helpful event for anyone looking to spread the word about their work!

Schedule for this event:
• 6:30pm - Arrival and socializing
• 7:00pm - Intro and announcements
