Details

Update:

Dear members of Auckland Hiking Group(AHG), we decided to close RSVP earlier than announced as we reached maximum number of participants with a wait list of 8. However, if the circumstances will change we will be glad to invite other participants to Gibbs farm hike.

We want to remind every member of AHG that only the 40 RSVP ppl will get entry to Gibbs farm. Any other person who will show up at Gibbs farm will not get entry into the property. Gibbs farm will count people at the entry and will reject any person who is not on our list!!!!!!!!!

All the cars driving to Gibbs Farm are asked to show this conformation letter (http://files.meetup.com/230066/gibbs%20farm.pdf)at the entrance. Please mention there that you are a member of Auckland Hiking Group.

Greetings Everyone,

On Thursday 22 September, we are going to Gibbs Farm (http://www.gibbsfarm.org.nz/artworks.php), "an unusual setting for a sculpture collection" located in Makarau, about 60km North from Auckland.
Gibbs Farm is a private property opens only once a month by prior appointment, which usually become fully booked as soon as they start announcing the open day 6 month in prior. AHG got a rare opportunity of having 40 people allowed to visit this unique place. Let's enjoy our mid week art walk together :-)

Important Notes and Warnings:

Please note that this is a mid-day hike.
The circumstance of car park and traffic in Aukland will be different from our usual weekend hikes. Finding all-day parking space around Victoria Park will be difficult on Thursday morning. After arranging car pooling at Victoria Park New World, we are planning to drop unnecessary cars at Point Erin Park. Therefore for those who plan to come to New World by car, you can park your car for temporary at limited-time parking space around New World. After arranging car pooling, all necessary cars can be transferred and parked at Point Erin Park for all day parking.

The number of the attendees will be limited up to 40 people.
Even though the Waiting List system is on for the RSVP, please make sure before booking that you are really willing and able to join the hike. The space should be saved for those who are really going instead of those who just RSVP in case they can make it.

--------------------------------------------------------------------
Carpooling:

  • Carpooling will be arranged for everyone meeting at New World after everyone arrives there (you can read more details here (https://www.meetup.com/auckland-hiking/pages/Transport_and_Carpooling)).
  • If you need a ride from New World there's no need to arrange this in advance - just answer the RSVP question on this.
  • If you want a ride or can offer rides from another location, you can mention this in Conversation below and contact each other to arrange.
  • Most people who need a ride tend to meet at New World. Good if most drivers can meet there first.
  • Each carpool passenger from New World is asked to give $15 to driver.

--------------------------------------------------------------------
Bring:

  • lunch and drink
  • clothing suitable for Spring walk
  • footwear suitable for walking tracks
  • sun and emergency rain protection
  • plastic bags for muddy footwear
  • additional clean clothing/footwear to change into after hike
  • first-aid items
  • cash ($15 if a carpool passenger; plus optional extra for refreshments afterwards)

--------------------------------------------------------------------
Notes:

(1) 8:40 am is the latest time to arrive at New World. We aim to leave New World and start the hike exactly on time, and we will NOT wait for late people.
(2) It is safer and generally more fun to hike together as a group. We aim to do this with stops at all track junctions for group to regather. However, there's no guarantee this will happen so prepare well for this hike in case you become separated from group.
(3) Each person who participates accepts responsibility for making their own determinations and for their own safety, conduct and well being.
