Capture the Flag at the Capitol!
Hosted by Austin Bird Watching
Details
Run, jump, crawl, climb, hide and otherwise hone your natural stealth in an epic night-time game of Capture the Flag! We will play at the capitol building, using the sidewalk as a dividing line between team territories. Meet at the capitol steps at seven and we will divide into two teams and begin the game.
As a refresher, Here are the Basic Rules:
-
There are two teams, each with their own territory. A boundary line separates the territory (such as a path, landmark, etc).
-
Each team places its flag in a VISIBLE location somewhere near the back of its territory (some variations have the flag hidden, or only visible at a certain angle).
-
In order to win, one team must retrieve the other team's flag and bring it back to their own territory.
-
Team members must remain at least 50 steps away from their flag, unless a member of the opposing team gets within that range of the flag. (You can't just babysit your flag)
-
If you get tagged while in the opposing team's territory, you will be put in "jail", a designated area which is usually far away from the flag. You can only leave the jail area if you are "freed" (tagged) by a member of your own team, at which point you must return to your own territory before trying to capture the opposing team's flag again.
-
Generally only one person can be freed from jail at a time. If we have rather large teams or the game is stalling, we could try a variation where more than one can be freed at a time.
-
The person who "freed" the prisoners does not have to immediately return to their own territory, but can continue trying to capture the opposing team's flag.
-
If one team member is able to grab the opposing team's flag, but is tagged before making it back to their own territory, the flag stays at the spot where that person was tagged.
NOTE: This Meetup involves sprinting and hiding. You will get a workout, especially your quads. But it will be FUN! Wear clothes and shoes that are good for running. If you're not a fast runner or are out of shape, don't worry. Everything will be scaled to people's abilities.
KIDS ARE WELCOME!
Parking is free after 6 pm and should be available on the streets nearby. Also feel free to post a message to see about carpooling with others. A few of us from far North Austin will be carpooling as well.
