January (Post-Apocalyptic) AWPUG Meetup

Details

Happy 2013, Austin Pythoneers!

We made it -- we survived the Mayan apocalypse and 2012. So naturally the first thing we’ll want to do is talk about Python. One of our resolutions for 2013 is to have a theme for each meetup with an introductory talk and a more advanced talk each week.

This month, we’ll be focusing on websockets. At 7:00pm, Josh Marshall will give a talk on what websockets are, how you can start playing with them, and the caveats / fallbacks you’ll need to employ when using them in production applications. Then at 8:00pm Robert Myers will be giving a talk on how you can integrate websockets (and all the fallbacks) into your existing Django application by using the push stream module for Nginx. His example will be the “Julython” (http://julython.org) website.

Speaking of Julython, we’re halfway through the “Julython in January” competition -- so make sure you are helping the Austin cause by committing to your projects and getting the Austin area points during the month of January.

There will be great food and great beer provided by the fantastic folks at Rackspace Cloud (http://www.rackspace.com/cloud/). So come to the Capital Factory next Thursday (the 24th) a little early and hang out before the talks start.

See you there, and congratulations on avoiding all those fiery meteors!
