PPA Update!

Greetings, Aviators!

First off, Happy Veterans' Day to the many men and women that have, and do serve in the Armed Forces!  Aviation has developed as far as it has today due to both the advances provided by military interest, as well as the freedoms we enjoy by that same military.  Thanks!

These last few weeks have been quite interesting, haven't they ?  A Hurricane, a light Nor'easter, and daylight savings time has really cramped our flying style.  Luckily, those are all in the past now, and we can move on to more interesting topics!  Here are some news out and around our airport!
AAG- that "little" charter helicopter company on the northeast end of POU- has been authorized access to conduct operations in and out of KDCA Reagan International airport.  While not a major point of news in itself, this is a major milestone for the executive charter company since it now opens up the Washington, DC market to them.  Operations into and out of KDCA were severely curtailed after Sept 11, 2001, and generally, only Airlines are allowed in and out of DCA due to their TSA screening.
Piper Aircraft is 75 years old!  While few are likely to be flying a 75-year old Piper around, this tenacious company has provided many of aviation's classic aircraft, and it's nice to see that they are still going strong!
Ever wonder if you can help out with relief efforts?  Hurricane Sandy took quite a toll on NYC, and one of our frequent visitors, Graeme Smith, used his beloved Cessna 150 to fly supplies to Long Island.  This arrangement makes a lot of sense- a Cessna can carry a few hundred pounds of supplies, and doesn't need the support, airport improvement, and facilities a turbine would doing the same thing.  Here's a link to an article about Graeme helping out:
Dutchess COunty Airport now has some of the LOWEST Avgas prices in the country!  After changes from the new management have settled in, Dutchess County Avgas prices have plummeted to their most competitive ever.  Sunday, Nov 11, Dutchess Aviation reports they had one of their busiest days ever fueling GA Planes- over 891 gallons pumped in one day!  Matt reports that they were getting calls all day to confirm their online price, and the planes kept coming in!
Have you taken PPA's newest poll?  Tell us what you'd like to see added or removed from the Monthly Meeting!  Take the Poll here:
It's time to choose our photos for our 2013 PPA-generated Calendar!  If you haven't submitted your photos to be considered for our 2013 PPA calendar, submit them by THIS THURSDAY to our online Photo Album "2013 Calendar- Submit Photos Here."  If you can't upload them to the online album, send me the photo and I'll do it for you!  Remember- the deadline is this Thursday!
The PPA Chili Cook-Off went well, with about 20 in attendance!  Bruce won the contest, with Gabby a close second!  Congratulations!
Our Annual Holiday Party has been set!  For details and to RSVP, see our meetup event here:
One last note- don't forget our next Meeting is this Thursday!  I'll bring the projector to show a few things- one, to show the photo submissions for our 2013 Calendar (over 58 submissions so far) during our meeting.  After the meeting, I'll show the teardown inspection results of my engine that failed back in June.  There are LOTS of internal photos of the engine.  See you there!  RSVP here if you haven't already!

Have a good week, and remember to thank a veteran!
