Cartographic Design is an often overlooked aspect in the GIS profession, yet as maps are communication tools, the ability to effectively and thoughtfully design a map or graphic is an important skill to have in the GIS field. This talk will highlight seven basic design principles that apply not only to maps, but to graphic design in general, and highlight some key items you should remember and emphasize while creating a map.
