About us
The Hamburg AWS User Group meets every month to discuss and share topics around the AWS Cloud.
We are a group of AWS users with very different experiences and backgrounds but want to learn from each other and welcome everybody from a Cloud Newbie to experienced user.
As this group is based on the principle that content should primarily come from within the group and for the group we are always looking for people who would like to share their stories or provide a location where we can meet. You can use the links below if you would like to submit a talk or location:

Agentic AWS Ops: Automating Troubleshooting and Maintenance of AWS Resources by Clifford Sanders
As cloud-native architectures scale, SRE teams are often buried under a deluge of operational data and maintenance toil. Traditional monitoring is reactive, but the emergence of "Agentic Ops" allows teams to move toward autonomous, self-investigating infrastructure. This talk explores the practical implementation of HolmesGPT, a CNCF Sandbox project, for alert-driven operations on AWS. We will dive into two production-ready use cases:- Reactive Troubleshooting: How AI agents autonomously investigate EKS alerts by correlating signals across Prometheus, Kubernetes events, and logs to identify root causes in seconds.
- Proactive Maintenance: Leveraging agentic workflows to monitor RDS version deprecations and automate notifications to resource owners, ensuring seamless engine upgrades before maintenance windows hit.
AWS Security at Scale: Lessons from an Anonymized Review of One of Germany’s Largest Financial Services Providers by Hendrik Hagen
Cybersecurity, especially cloud security, is one of the most discussed topics today. Long gone are the days of on-premises environments where you could hide your infrastructure behind a strong perimeter. Modern infrastructure runs in the cloud: large, complex, and inherently interconnected ecosystems.
Even within a single AWS account, we have instant access to hundreds of services, thousands of API calls to consider, global reach from day one, and virtually unlimited scalability. Building and maintaining a strong security posture in such an environment is already a challenge. But what happens when, instead of securing one AWS account, you are responsible for more than 1,500 AWS accounts and, on top of that, operate in a tightly regulated environment like the financial sector?
In this short talk, I’ll walk you through the lessons I learned while conducting a security review for one of Germany’s largest financial services providers. I’ll highlight the pitfalls and issues that arise when operating AWS at this scale, and share my personal best practices, along with practical tips and tricks for scaling your own AWS security.---
We'll meet at Freenow by Lyft
