Using the Web without a Browser w/ Keith Casey (Code Review Afterwards!)

Apologies for the last minute change, but Keith Casey is in town and has offered to speak to the group.  He recently moved to Austin from DC, and is very well known in the PHP community.  This is great timing for him to be in town during our meetup.  After meetup networking will surely be something you won't want to miss either.

Keith's talk:

Generally, when we design of User Interfaces, we think of color, alignment, and pixels. Unfortunately there are times when you can't use a browser or it just doesn't make sense. So what if we broke the UI out of the visual realm and into the audio? In this session, we'll use our phones to both a navigate and consume a website. Specifically, we'll use the Twilio API to connect, explore, and use a website.

Keith Casey has been a PHP developer for about seven years and until recently, a professional agitator within the DC tech community. To pay the bills, he works as the CTO of Blue Parabola, LLC on large-scale PHP-based systems for organizations ranging from major news media companies to small non-profits. In his spare time, he is a core contributor to web2project, works to build and support the Austin community, blogs regularly on technology issues at  http://CaseySoftware.com and is completely fascinated by monkeys.

Code Review moderated by Tim Crider:

Submit your code before the event to [masked], and we will obfuscate your code and evaluate it.

All levels of code will be accepted. Just starting out in PHP? This is your chance to get help and guidance from people that have made their careers in PHP. Do you write Enterprise level code and think it's second to none? Now is your chance to test your theory and share your skills with the group and pass on your knowledge.

Tim Crider is a Systems Architect for  MGH , a Baltimore advertising and marketing firm located in Owings Mills and a frequent attendee of the user group. Tim has have been directly involved in designing, implementing and maintaining large data warehouses. He has designed custom data processing applications including reporting engines, data conversion, and data cleansing. He was also responsible for large database servers utilizing open source software such as the MySQL Database Server (v 3.x, 4.x, 5.x), Apache Web Server (1.3.x), PHP, and several Linux distributions. Tim has over a decade of experience in all of these technologies and continues to keep current on new and exciting trends in the field. He is a very avid PHP user who often thinks outside of the box.

The meeting starts at 6:30, and we'll get on the code review around 7:00. 6:30 - 7:00 is reserved for chit chat, socializing, and our usual pizza tasting :)

We are meeting at our new location.  Michael Rosner, a member of Beehive Baltimore, made the new meeting location possible.  Please make sure to thank him and support your local community.  Bring a friend that's interested in PHP, someone looking to refine their skills, or meet fellow PHPers. The more the merrier.

As usual, we’ll continue our tradition and conversation over a few beers.  We'll be going to the Fieldhouse afterwards.  The Fieldhouse is in the same complex as the ETC.  No driving required.
