Content is King (Q&A Panel) + Potluck

Switching things up this month and holding a panel with four excellent WIMP members to discuss what the core of any website or marketing strategy needs, content.

Jeri Hastava

I began my professional career in 2004, working for a busy web design company in Santa Rosa where I cut my teeth as a content advocate, designer, project manager, front-end developer, customer care representative, and CSS cheerleader.

I wrote web content, functional specs, end user documentation, and office policies and procedures. I preached web standards, tested fanatically, and drove everyone crazy with my attention to detail.

In 2008, I took a leap of faith (pardon the pun), and hung out my own "virtual" shingle. Today, Leap of Faith Web Design is committed to helping clients meet their business objectives by planning and designing clear, concise and compelling websites with a strong focus on content. Can't tell you all how sorry I am that I had to miss this one due to emergency travel. The reviews are great!

Meanwhile, we will present findings of our survey to you in the near future so you can see how you and other WIMPs relate to content in your profession. Our content survey will remain open for a few more days at the link below. If you haven't taken it yet, please do so to help us get a better quantifiable base for reporting.

Great meet-up, loaded with info from a panel of real experts on the front-lines of the content wars. Makes me happy to be a North Bay techie.

I loved the panel format, and the information and resources given were fantastic. I am becoming more and more insistent with my clients about the importance of content.

I always wish these events could run longer. Maybe we could do WIMP Meetup Sleepover events!

Great panelists with important information. I have a lot to learn about web and interactive media and am hungry for information. Though not a programmer, I get that having the content first is very important. Getting it upfront is great, though as the designer that often isn't what happens. If you don't know what you are and want, how can I? I had one client that said "Wow me". Hello...?

I came for the coleslaw, but i left with some great content tips. Thanks!

Although the event was slow in getting started, the topic "Content is King" was discussed in an educational and understandable way be the panel members. I thought they personified the topic by presenting relevant, sometime personal material which was pertinent to the topic. Overall, well worth the wait!

I used to feel that way, David, until I learned that the WIMP format is "networking at 7, event at 7:30" Now I show up on time for the great food!
