A HUGE thank you to Linda Hemenway and the Computer Studies department for sponsoring WIMP with this location.
Today, a large majority of websites are using some kind of underlying CMS/framework. Whether that is WordPress, Drupal, Joomla!, concrete5, Magento, CodeIgniter, Yii, Laravel, the list goes on... they all have one thing in common. PHP.
PHP is used by 80.5% of all server-side languages used by websites. Today, it benefits anyone that builds websites on any of these systems to have at least a basic understanding of how they work. This requires some fundamental understanding of PHP will take any web administrator/builder far in fully "understanding" their websites. Even if you are a designer with basic HTML/CSS skills, you can benefit from building on your skill set by learning the basics of PHP and have some insight into how your plugin/theme/module/whatever is working for basic troubleshooting.
In this meetup, Cole Geissinger, will give a crash course introduction to PHP covering the history, basic syntax/statements, variables, operators, arrays and all the other gooey stuff that makes PHP powerful enough to run some of the largest websites on the web. If time permits, we can build a quick demo site using the PHP skills learned.
This meetup will be very low level and is meant as a foundation for anyone that is PHP curious/enthusiastic.
