PLEASE NOTE: This is NOT a beginner hike. It is an intermediate level hike for those in good shape.

We're going up to Mt. Hollywood for dinner and take in the amazing sunset views of the City of Angels from one of the highest points in Griffith Park. On the way back down you'll be treated to an almost constant panoramic view from downtown LA to Century City. Great for pictures!

And of course, we'll also have 'Chocolate Trivia'!

This hike is about 5.5-6 miles long with ~1200' elevation gain. It's an intermediate level (or hard intermediate depending on who you ask) level hike as we'll be going up (and down) some fairly steep hills and uneven trails. However, most people who are in good shape usually do okay. But you will definitely get a major workout. http://img2.meetupstatic.com/981263258369601089/img/smileys/smile.gif

Pack yourself a nice picnic dinner. Preferably something that won't get smushed or soggy. Bring water and layered clothing, jackets, hats, etc. because it can get chilly up there. Optional accessories include a flashlight (red or green beam preferred), camera, munchies, etc. And dogs are welcome.

Park in Griffith Park Merry-Go-Round lot #2 and we'll meet at the South end, which is the end opposite the steps. (The Sierra Club meets at the steps) For those of you that aren't familiar with the park, there's a map in the files section showing the location. For those of you that haven't been there before, here's a Google Maps link to lot #1 that you can get directions from:

However, the easiest way is to get there is to take the Los Feliz/Crystal Springs entrance to the park just off the I5 freeway. Go North on Crystal Springs into the park. At the second stop sign you'll come to a four way intersection. The ranger station should be on your right. Make a left at that intersection, go up the road a little bit, and you'll be forced to turn right into merry-go-round lot #1. Just drive through lot #1 and down the road a little ways and you'll be in lot #2.

I'll send my cell number to those coming a couple hours before, so if you can't find us or are running a little late you can call and we'll wait a few minutes for you.

See ya there!

Note about dinner: I've found that with the sometimes wildly varying diets people can have, it's generally better to just bring your own meals when hiking. That way you'll be sure to have something you like and/or will eat. However, anyone who wishes to bring food (or dessert!) to share is more than welcome to! http://img2.meetupstatic.com/1723755200050492932723/img/smileys/biggrin.gif
