Description:
The Internet is a warzone. With each passing month there seems to be a new mega-breach highlighted that cyber attacks are continuously becoming more surgical and sophisticated. Some have referred to the current cyber problem as finding needles within a needle stack. One approach to this problem is to use Big Data techniques to identify subtle indicators of nefarious activity.
At this meetup we’ll talk about how Sqrrl (http://sqrrl.com/) puts the Apache Hadoop ecosystem to use for building a cyber threat detection and investigation tool. Sqrrl is a graph-style database built on Apache Accumulo and Hadoop. We've integrated Sqrrl with the Spark GraphX library to perform in-memory graph analysis over and asset data to comb over the intricate relationships in your big data, uncover hidden patterns, and ultimately aid the investigation of cyber events.
Speaker: Joe Travaglini (http://www.linkedin.com/in/jtrav) is the Director of Products at Sqrrl.
Prior to joining the Sqrrl team, Joe led Big Data efforts at Verizon Communications and Fidelity Investments, focused around enterprise offerings of Hadoop. Some projects included mobile advertising, clickstream analytics, and insider threat investigations.
