Announcing a new Meetup for The Seattle Bicycling Meetup Group!

What: Upper Green River loop

When: Sunday, August 8,[masked]:45 AM

Where: Auburn/Black Diamond Park and Ride
[masked],[masked] SR18
Auburn, WA 98092

In effort to avoid the mess of Seafair, let's do a ride in the South end! The Upper Green River Loop is a variation of a ride out of Bicycling the Backroads Around Puget Sound By Bill and Erin Woods. We'll start off from the Auburn/Black Diamond Park and Ride off SR 18 and warm up with about 8 miles of a fairly flat rural road towards Flaming Geyser Park. The last major intersection we'll turn left for our one big climb for the day. After that it's all rolling hills and beautiful scenery. We'll ride up through the Green River Gorge across a one lane bridge with a great view of the river below and then make our way to the Black Diamond Bakery where we can partake in some of their wonderful carbs. We'll make our way back to the first hill we climbed for a thrilling downhill (make sure your brakes are in good shape) to Flaming Geyser Park for another pit stop. The rest of the trip is the 8 mile return along the flat rural route. The views of Mt. Rainier are spectacular. This ride is totally on the road. Traffic is light and the shoulders are good. Total mileage is approximately 50.

I modified my original route to shift the the stop at Black Diamond bakery more towards the end of the ride so we have something to look forward to. Here is a map of the route:,-122.02446+to:228th+Pl+SE%2FSE+Flaming+Geyser+Rd+to:SE+Auburn-Black+Diamond+Rd&geocode=Fcq70QIdDqa3-A%3BFa590QIdYJ25-A%3BFRCe0gIdzNC6-A%3BFYCb0gIdrDC8-A%3BFSQg0gIdpte7-A%3BFa2E0QIdp3q7-A%3BFckF0gIdcB27-A%3BFZza0QIdQFW6-A%3B%3BFdRS0QIdjBG6-A%3BFTPA0QId2KO3-A&hl=en&mra=dpe&mrcr=6&mrsp=8&sz=14&via=4,8&dirflg=b&sll=47.301177,-122.026091&sspn=0.039929,0.052614&ie=UTF8&ll=47.301119,-122.040253&spn=0.319433,0.420914&z=11&lci=bike

To get to the park and ride, take I-5 (or 167) to SR 18 heading east. Get off at the Auburn/Black Diamond Exit. (Look for the sign for Flaming Geyser Park)Turn left towards Auburn. The Park and Ride is just past the freeway on the left side. Note the flag on the map is incorrect.

I set the meet time at 9:45 with intent on being on the road at 10:00
