Casual Beach Cruise

An easy 23+ mile beach cruise along Huntington and Bolsa Chica beaches.  A virtually flat route with all but 1/2 mile on bike trails.  This ride is designed to be a very casual cruise along the beach, so enjoy the views and ocean air!

Pedals turn at 8:30 sharp, so be prompt or ready to catch up!

Route map:  http://ridewithgps.com/routes/2929824

We'll be heading down the SART and taking the detour at Hamilton to the East side and continue to PCH.  On the return leg we'll stay on the beach trail down to Orange in Newport Beach to cross PCH and head back to the SART.  We'll again take the detour at Hamilton back to the west side, and continue up to our starting point.

Anyone wanting to add a couple of miles and is comfortable riding on bike-laned streets can ride up Warner to Graham, turn right to Slater, left on Slater to the SART, then down the SART to Atlanta.  The scenery will be totally different (some might even say lacking), but you should be able to keep a slightly faster pace.  It will add only 2 miles to the total as it's just under 13 miles from Warner.

After the ride we can grab a bite at Lou's Red Oak BBQ, just down the street at Brookhurst and Hamilton (S/W corner).

You can check out their menu here:  http://lousbbq.com/

Please remember:  Check your bike and be ready to go before ride time, and don't forget your helmet, spare tube, and water bottle

Thanks to Mike for setting an easy pace on this ride, I was able to ride the entire way. I had I little doubt I could do it. It reallly felt good to be on my bike after the long absence!

Another wonderful easy cruise along the beach. Weather was great, cool and overcast. A lot of people along the beach, but not so many that we had to dismount. Did detour around the pier on the return leg. No mechanical issues or flats and everyone made the entire route. Fewer and shorter stops this time, too! Lunch at Lou's was great! I'd forgotten just how good their Santa Maria style tri-tip is.

US Open continues this weekend. Expect some crowds down at the pier.

Yeah, it'll be congested for a bit, hopefully we'll be early enough to miss most of it. If need be we'll move up to the highway at that stretch.

If I can get there super early, I will stop by the famous Donut Derelicts car show, nearby at Magnolia & Adams. Billed as "The Oldest, Best Free Car Show in America". Show is every Saturday from 6:30 - 8:30 am.

I will ride with the group to Goldenwest, where I'll turn off and take Orange to First street/Atlanta and back to the start. I rode with Dean on the 24th. and 14 miles ride was not easy. Need to get my shoulders and rear end harden up after being off the bike Since May 31. (53 days)
This ride will give me 11 miles. It will be awhile before I am up to riding 25-30 miles again hosting rides. Thanks to my AO for posting rides during this time.
