OK, I've made some schedule changes, and it looks like I'll be able to do the IBA Memorial Ride on October 10....MY BIRTHDAY!! Rolling party.

Visit the IBA website and read up on the story behind the Memorial Ride and why you should participate. http://ironbutt.com/memorial/thenandnow.html

All riders who complete a Memorial will receive a special ride certificate which can include a dedication to your memorialize , commemorative bike sticker, special patch and special recognition by Mike Kneebone at the Fall IBA Memorial Ride event in Dallas in October. And these rides count toward your 5K and 10K Memorial Miles certificates and add to your Lifetime Memorial Miles for those working on those goals.

Please be sure to read the rules for this ride at the link below.

The majority of the ride is done in Eastern Washington. A number of people did not want to ride last year because it was drizzling rain on the west side of the State, but once we got to the east side, it was simply beautiful with no rain and lots of sun....although a little cold as it is October, so dress warm.

If this is your first attempt at a 1,000 mile day, I highly recommend that you study the Iron Butt Association's 25 long distance riding tips located at:

We've done this route for a few years now and it seems to work. I'm always open to new routes if it saves time and gas stops. I did this route a few weeks ago and finished in just over 16 hours.

The new and improved Google map only allows for 10 way points. From Dupont north and Blaine south, there will be a gas stop around Smokey Point and North Bend off I-90; then again in Ellensburg if you want. I have included gas stops in Yakima and Ritzville for those with limited range, or for those of us with small bladders.

I have the Washington State IBA patch. This patch is available to those who complete an IBA certified ride within Washington State. If you complete the Memorial ride, you are entitled to buy the patch for $7.50. I'll have them at the conclusion of the ride for purchase if you wish.

Finally, be sure you have someone that will sign your IBA witness forms. Neither myself, nor anyone on the ride can sign you in or out of the event as they are all participants; however, I can act as the second witness.
